SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28
(By Senator Ross)
Requesting the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority to
construct the Tygart Valley Regional Jail at the Huttonsville
Correctional Center.
Whereas, A state correctional center now exists in
Huttonsville, Randolph County; and
Whereas, This state correctional center has ample level
acreage to sustain another facility; and
Whereas, Thousands of tax dollars could be saved by utilizing
state-owned acreage at the Huttonsville Correctional Center for the
new Tygart Valley Regional Jail; and
Whereas, Thousands more tax dollars could be saved by
utilizing the infrastructure already in existence at the
Huttonsville Correctional Center because this facility already
possesses such necessities as water, sewerage, electricity and
accessibility; and
Whereas, The construction of the Tygart Valley Regional Jail
at the Huttonsville Correctional Center would ease even more
financial burden upon the state by having prisoners within walking distance of each facility, virtually eliminating vehicle usage, and
by providing a more secure region for our citizens; and
Whereas, Huttonsville is a geographically good location, with
highways serving the area, which would conveniently serve the
economical strains and time demands of sheriffs and police in
moving prisoners from their locations to Huttonsville; and
Whereas, The citizens of Randolph County are accustomed to
having correctional facilities in their area and welcome the
construction of Tygart Valley Regional Jail; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby requests the Regional Jail and
Correctional Facility Authority to construct the Tygart Valley
Regional Jail on the state-owned acreage at the Huttonsville
Correctional Center; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate considers the Huttonsville
Correctional Center as an economical and feasible location for the
Tygart Valley Regional Jail due to the level, state-owned acreage
and the presence of infrastructure necessities such as water,
sewerage, electricity and accessibility; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to the Governor, the Secretary of the
Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety and the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority.
